It Smells Like Girl

Femininity stands at a paradoxical crossroads, caught between self-expression and societal expectations. We are told to be pleasing, to be kind, to play by the rules—but we also know the magnetic allure of rebellion, of disruption. Culture celebrates the ‘bad girl’ but demands that she still play nice. This schism breeds a schizophrenic femininity, a state of “hysterical fantasy,” where desire twists against propriety, and where performance and reality become blurred.

In a world saturated with images and identities, the female form is in constant motion—flailing, screaming, running naked through symbolic forests of repression and expectation. She is both spectacle and enigma, slipping into hysteria’s embrace to make her voice heard. Here, the works invite viewers to confront this “hysterical” aspect of contemporary femininity, this state of disturbance, where reality fractures, and language fails. It is a call to witness and to question: in a culture that both reveres and rejects female strength, what choice is left but to embrace the spectacle?
